In the 1990s, the project was briefly revived as part of the Promin program, funded by the World Bank. Hope flickered, only to be dashed again as further tenders fell through. It wasn’t until 2004 that the provincial government stepped up, funding the project themselves. Even then, the journey wasn’t smooth. The project faced scrutiny over costs, causing further delays. Finally, in 2007, the Centro de Salud Lera opened its doors. It was a victory hard-won, a symbol of the community’s resilience. This center, with its five consultorios, its administrative offices, its meeting rooms, represents more than just bricks and mortar. It embodies the unwavering determination of the Lera neighborhood to secure vital healthcare services. The Centro de Salud Lera offers a range of services, including odontology, pediatrics, gynecology, and general medicine. It’s a vital lifeline, bringing essential healthcare closer to the people who need it most. Ten years later, in 2017, the community gathered again, this time to celebrate. They celebrated not just the building’s tenth anniversary but also the spirit that brought it into being. The Centro de Salud Lera isn’t just a place to receive medical care.
