Established in 1961 Iskandhar School stands proudly in Malé. Initially named Hameediya Montessori School it only catered to primary students. Can you imagine a time when this very spot only housed younger children?

Iskandhar School wasn’t always so grand. It began small focusing on the foundational years of education. Its humble beginnings tell a story of growth and adaptation. The school expanded over time. In 1970 it was renamed Naasiriyya Montessori School reflecting its growth and evolution. The original building was extended creating more classrooms. The number of students increased significantly. By 1978 there were 588 students and 18 classes. Mrs M Vanculumburge the school’s first principal dedicated her service until 1974.

A further renaming occurred in 1979 becoming Iskandhar Montessori School. It officially adopted its current name in 1980. This name change honored Sultan Ibrahim Iskandhar Siri Kularanmeeba Mahaa Radhun a significant figure in Maldivian history. The school’s continuous expansion culminated in its transition to a fully-fledged secondary school in 2010. Today Iskandhar School educates students from grades 1 to 10.

Over the years Iskandhar School has faced its share of challenges. There have been controversies surrounding inappropriate conduct involving teachers and students. Despite these difficulties the school has persevered. It stands as a testament to the enduring importance of education. It provides a vital service to the Maldivian community.

Today Iskandhar School boasts over 2000 students and more than 130 teachers. It’s a vibrant hub of learning and community engagement. The school offers a wide array of facilities. These include a library science laboratory audio-visual room and computer laboratory. Extracurricular activities like choir band singing and Quran club are popular amongst students. Students can also participate in sports clubs such as basketball football and swimming.
