Is that Cerro Negro? The majestic peak before us. Cerro Negro stands tall at 1,970 meters. It’s a prominent landmark in the Nahuel Huapi National Park. Cerro Negro is part of an incredible 4-day hut-to-hut hiking route. This challenging route takes you through diverse landscapes. It winds through forests of cypress and Chilean firebush. As you climb, the vegetation changes. Coihue trees dominate the lower slopes, giving way to the twisted shapes of ñire trees. The trail then leads you past the rocky outcrop known as the Mirador del Naso. From this point, the real challenge begins. You’ll ascend through meadows and scree slopes. This part of the hike can be particularly demanding in the summer. Remember to bring plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun. After navigating a challenging scree field, hikers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views from Cerro Negro’s summit. On clear days, you can even spot distant peaks. The iconic Cerro Tronador and the majestic Lanin Volcano are visible in the distance. It’s a reminder of the raw beauty and power of the Andes.
