Reinforced concrete anchors it firmly to the ground. The flower’s height reaches twenty-three meters. Its diameter expands to a breathtaking thirty-two meters when fully open.
Originally the flower’s petals opened and closed automatically. A clever electrical system mimicked nature’s rhythm. It opened at eight each morning. It closed at sunset. This system even protected the flower from strong winds. Unfortunately technical problems and later a lack of maintenance temporarily halted this beautiful mechanism.
