Channel 6 began its journey in 1966. It started as Canal 3 a closed-circuit television service. This was Bariloche’s first television station. Imagine a time before streaming before even terrestrial TV when local content was shared through cables.
Fast forward to 1978 a pivotal year. The government wanted to broadcast the 1978 FIFA World Cup. Canal 3 transformed into an over-the-air television station. On May 1 1978 LU 93 TV Canal 6 de San Carlos de Bariloche was born.
The early days of Channel 6 involved some resilient founders. Alfredo Sauter Juan Carlos Ramón Antonio Rossetti and Francisco José Caló established the open signal. This came after its initial run as Canal 3 a cable channel.
In 1981 disaster struck. A fire destroyed the Channel 6 studios. They were then located on Elflein Street. But the station did not stay off the air for long. Francisco Caló’s house became a temporary studio. Canal 13 from Buenos Aires provided equipment. Channel 6 was back on air quickly.
Throughout the years Channel 6 faced many changes. There were shifts in ownership and upgrades in technology. In 2007 Artear a subsidiary of Grupo Clarín acquired Bariloche TV. This included Channel 6.
In 2011 Channel 6 began testing digital television. This was a step towards modern broadcasting. By 2018 Channel 6 was transmitting its programming in HD.
More recently in 2021 Grupo Clarín sold Bariloche TV to Televisión Litoral S.A. That is the owner of Canal 3 de Rosario. The channel rebranded as elseis TV. It adopted the logo of Canal 3 de Rosario.
Channel 6 stopped broadcasting on analog television on March 31 2024. The transition to digital terrestrial television was complete.
Today Channel 6 continues to broadcast. It airs content from El Trece of Buenos Aires. It also produces local shows like Noticiero Seis. This newscast focuses on local regional and national news. Another local program is Ecos del Parque. It covers environmental issues and national parks.
