In 1997, a seed of knowledge was planted in Las Piedras. This seed was the Liceo 3 de Las Piedras. It began its life humbly in a rented space. It initially offered only Ciclo Básico. The close-knit community fostered strong bonds between students, families, and staff. Everyone involved felt the significance of bringing secondary education to this neighborhood. The Liceo 3 de Las Piedras was a beacon of opportunity. It offered a chance for local youth to continue their education. The dedicated staff nurtured a sense of belonging. They embraced the challenge of creating a space for learning and growth. A new chapter began in 2002. The Liceo 3 de Las Piedras moved into a purpose-built facility. This building, constructed by ANEP, stood proudly across from the original rented location. This expansion brought more classrooms, labs, a multipurpose room, and even a sports field. The growing student body had access to better resources and a more comfortable learning environment. The Liceo 3 de Las Piedras continued to evolve. In 2003, two 1st BD groups were created. This expansion was driven by parents’ requests. It was supported by the school’s leadership, teachers, staff, and students. The community’s investment in the Liceo 3 de Las Piedras led to further growth. Subsequent levels were added, including 2nd BD with humanities, biological, and scientific orientations. The Liceo 3 de Las Piedras also offers 3rd BD with orientations in law, medicine, and engineering. This growth reflects the importance of the institution within the community. The Liceo 3 de Las Piedras is not just a school. It’s a place where students learn, grow, and build relationships. It is a place of dreams and aspirations, where young people prepare for their futures. In 2019, the Liceo 3 de Las Piedras received a new official name: “Obelisco – Batalla de las Piedras”. This name honors a significant historical event, the Battle of Las Piedras. This battle was a pivotal moment in Uruguay’s fight for independence. The name change links the Liceo 3 de Las Piedras to the nation’s history. It serves as a constant reminder of the struggles and triumphs of the past.
