“Another lost soul” I overheard someone whisper when this Grapevine Cemetery Plaque was placed. Let’s delve into the story behind this solemn ground.

This Grapevine Cemetery Plaque marks a place of rest for many. It is located on North Dooley Street and Wildwood Lane in Grapevine. The Grapevine Cemetery holds stories of pioneer settlers. Its historical significance is recognized by the Texas Historical Commission.

Samuel D Coble and Allen B Coble settled here in the 1850s. In 1878 the Coble brothers sold 4.5 acres for a public cemetery. The oldest known grave belongs to Louisa C Guiry. She died in 1860 at the young age of 22.

Many early settlers of the Grapevine area are buried here. Barton H Starr rests here. He was the first Mayor of Grapevine elected in 1907. James Tracy Morehead is also buried here. He served as the second Judge of Tarrant County. He is credited with naming the town Grapevine after nearby springs.

In 1925 additional land was acquired south of the original tract. The Grapevine Cemetery has many children buried here. This indicates a high infant and child mortality rate in the early community.

The Grapevine Cemetery is a testament to time. It stands as a silent witness to the lives and struggles of those who came before us. Take a moment to reflect on their journeys. Consider the challenges they faced and the legacies they left behind. Notice how the placement of this Grapevine Cemetery Plaque has been a symbolic.
