Completed in 2004, UnionBank Plaza stands tall and proud. It dominates the Ortigas skyline. This impressive skyscraper isn’t just a building. It’s a symbol of financial power and architectural ingenuity. UnionBank Plaza serves as the headquarters for Union Bank of the Philippines. This bank holds the impressive title of seventh-largest bank in the Philippines by assets.

The story of UnionBank Plaza began with a different name. It was originally known as World Finance Plaza. Megaworld Corporation spearheaded its development. However, destiny had other plans. During construction, Union Properties, Inc. took over the project. Union Properties, Inc. is the real estate arm of Union Bank of the Philippines. The building was then renamed UnionBank Plaza. This marked the beginning of its close association with the prominent bank.

The design of UnionBank Plaza is a testament to architectural collaboration. The renowned Filipino firm Recio + Casas Architects took the lead. They worked alongside the American firm RTKL Associates, who served as design consultants. The structural engineering, a crucial aspect of such a tall building, was a joint effort. Ove Arup & Partners, a British firm, and the local G.E. Origenes & Associates combined their expertise. This blend of local and international talent resulted in a structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing masterpiece. UnionBank Plaza boasts 49 floors above ground and 6 basement levels. With a height of 206 meters, it’s currently the tallest completed building in Pasig. It also holds the rank of 14th-tallest building in the Philippines and Metro Manila.

UnionBank Plaza is not solely occupied by the bank. It also houses a variety of tenants. These include major business process outsourcing companies like Sykes Enterprises, Branders.com, and PCCW. This diverse mix of occupants contributes to the building’s dynamic atmosphere. It showcases the important role UnionBank Plaza plays in the local economy. Interestingly, while UnionBank’s main headquarters are at UnionBank Plaza, they also maintain some executive offices at the SSS Building in Makati. This reveals the bank’s significant presence across key business districts in the Philippines. UnionBank Plaza is more than just office spaces. It provides a range of amenities for its tenants and guests. A helipad on the rooftop offers a dramatic mode of arrival and departure. An executive skylounge on the 47th floor provides breathtaking views of the city. Other amenities include function rooms, a health club, restaurants, and a food court. These features ensure that UnionBank Plaza caters to the diverse needs of its occupants, fostering a vibrant and thriving work environment. So, as you stand before UnionBank Plaza, remember that you’re not just looking at a building. You’re witnessing a symbol of Philippine economic strength, architectural innovation, and the power of collaboration.
