Hatz-Moninger Brauhaus

The Hatz-Moninger Brauhaus has quenched Karlsruhe’s thirst since its founding in 1856 by Stephan Moninger. He received his brewing license on December 16th of that year. Originally located in Karlsruhe’s Weststadt, the brewery moved to its current location in Grünwinkel in 1980, taking over the former Sinner Brewery site. The name, however, evolved. In 2010, Moninger merged with Rastatt’s Hofbrauerei Hatz, creating the Hatz-Moninger Brauhaus we know today. This fusion wasn’t just a name change. It involved dismantling the Hatz brewhouse in Rastatt and incorporating its brewing kettles into a brand new, 3.4 million euro brewhouse here in Grünwinkel. Imagine the logistical feat! This blend of tradition and innovation is at the heart of Hatz-Moninger. While they honor their past, they also embrace the future. In 2018, the Scheidtweiler family, known for their ownership of other breweries like C. Franz and Palmbräu, acquired Hatz-Moninger. They’ve revitalized the brand. They’ve tweaked brewing processes, experimented with ingredients, and crafted new recipes, all to bring a fresh perspective to the Hatz-Moninger legacy. Their efforts have led to the creation of beers like “Die Moni” Export and “Der Karl,” homages to key figures in Moninger’s history. Today, Hatz-Moninger produces a wide range of beers, from the classic Hatz Pils to the Moninger Hefe Weizen. They also offer seasonal specialties and collaborations.
