Tour Silex 2 is more than just a building. It’s a real estate complex. It includes a renovated tower. It has an extension on the north facade. A nine-story building connects it to Silex I. The tower reaches 130 meters. It shines in Lyon’s most connected district.
The original tower dates back to the 1970s. It was designed by Jean Zumbrunnen. Charles Delfante and René Provost also contributed. It is a remarkable piece of architecture. The concrete building balances on a narrow base. This base preserves the building’s history. The architectural extension is made of steel. It modernizes the tower’s overall look. The steel structure gives it a strong identity.
The steel extension rests on the existing tower. It sits at the 20th level. This helps it withstand earthquakes and wind. It preserves the structural independence of both towers. The nine-story building uses a mixed concrete and steel structure.
Covivio commissioned the project. Arte Charpentier and MA Architectes designed it. Jérôme Le Gall, Raquel Milagres, and Sylvie Levallois were the lead architects. Builders & Partners managed the project. Many other firms contributed their expertise.
Tour Silex 2 has a strong environmental focus. It achieved NF HQE “Bâtiments tertiaires” Passeport Excellent certification. It also earned BREEAM Excellent certification.
Inside, Tour Silex 2 primarily houses offices. They cover around 32,000 square meters. The buildings can accommodate up to 2,500 people. Many services are available to its occupants. There is a company restaurant. A cafeteria is available. There are shops nearby. A brasserie on the 21st floor offers table service. A concierge provides multi-services. There is a 140-seat auditorium. A wellness area is available. A 300-square-meter active base connects the tower to the city. It is accessible from the street.
Silex 2 also enhances the workspaces. It provides bright open floors. Over 90% of the offices receive natural light. There are shared meeting and reception areas. The building connects to nature. It features 1,700 square meters of accessible green terraces. The vast hall connects the central patio and the restaurant. The hall’s design is refined. It includes waiting areas that can convert into workspaces.
Tour Silex 2 reflects contemporary architectural style. It uses regular rhythms. It features contrasts in materials and textures. It is a striking landmark in Lyon’s skyline. The tower stands at 9, rue des Cuirassiers. Its completion in 2021 marked a new era.
Initially, Solvay occupied a significant portion of the tower. Other companies such as Archimed Axa and Microsoft soon followed. Microsoft even created a “Microsoft Experience Lab” there. The lab is an open platform for local businesses.
Tour Silex 2 offers high-end amenities. These enhance the work experience. These include planted terraces. Also a brasserie. Also a gym. Covivio commissioned Julien Soone to create artwork for the lobby.
