In 1543, Philippe Habert acquired land in Le Mesnil. His son Louis Habert inherited it. He became the lord of the area. Louis built a castle opposite the Beaurain fortress. His domain became the seigneury of Le Mesnil-Habert.

Today, Le Mesnil-Saint-Denis has about 7,103 residents. The mayor is Christophe Buhot. The town is twinned with Hankensbüttel in Germany since 1983.
