Considering that this bridge connects Nakasu and Tenjin, two of Fukuoka’s most vibrant districts, Haruyoshi Bridge has quite the story to tell. The Haruyoshi Bridge you see before you is not the original. Built in 1961 it formed a crucial part of Route 202. It efficiently connected Nakasu and Tenjin. These are two bustling areas of Fukuoka City.

Time took its toll and the original Haruyoshi Bridge aged. In April 2024 the fully renovated Haruyoshi Bridge was opened to traffic. The opening ceremony occurred on April 9. Traffic began flowing across the new bridge at 8:00 a.m. on April 10.

The bridge’s renovation wasn’t just about structural improvements. The adjacent bridge which served as a detour during construction was transformed. It became a public plaza. Now citizens can relax there. They can enjoy the riverside views. The plaza integrates seamlessly. It becomes part of Seiryu Park. This park runs alongside Canal City.

Tamori a popular TV celebrity played a special role in the bridge’s renewal. He wrote the new bridge sign. A high-school friend extended the offer to Tamori. Tamori is a Fukuoka native. He graduated from Chikushigaoka High School.

The old Haruyoshi Bridge spanned 60.4 meters. Its removal marked a significant step in the city’s ongoing development. The bridge’s replacement cost 382.1 million yen.

Imagine standing here in 1961. The neon lights of Nakasu would reflect on the water below. Many foreign tourists would pause here to take in the view. The Haruyoshi Bridge offers a beautiful scene. It links two dynamic areas of Fukuoka. It stands as a testament to progress and community. The new Haruyoshi Bridge signifies more than just infrastructure. It embodies Fukuoka’s spirit. It blends functionality with spaces for leisure and appreciation.
