“A park named after an egg man?” I imagine that’s what some people think when they first hear about Clarence Foster Park. But there’s much more to the story than just eggs. Clarence Foster Park is a vibrant space in Arlington Texas. It offers a place for recreation and relaxation.
Clarence Foster himself was a prominent figure in Arlington. He served two terms on the City Council. He was also Arlington’s Water Commissioner during the construction of Lake Arlington. Besides his public service, Foster owned Foster Egg Company. He even served as president of the Texas Egg Council.
This 15-acre neighborhood park provides a variety of amenities for visitors. A nearly one-mile-long hike and bike trail circles the park. Along the trail, you’ll find exercise stations for a full workout. There are also several spots to stop for a picnic. Grills are available if you want to cook. A playground offers fun for children of all ages. There are also practice fields for sports and games.
In 2014, Clarence Foster Park received a major facelift. The renovations included a new eight-foot-wide concrete trail. It connects to trails in nearby Kelley Park and Rush Creek Linear Park. This creates an extensive network for walking, jogging, and biking. Five new benches were added along the trail for resting.
The playground was also fully renovated. It now features separate areas for different age groups. There is equipment designed for 2 to 5-year-olds. There is also equipment for 5 to 12-year-olds. Eight pieces of exercise equipment were installed for adults. These are located adjacent to the trail. Security lighting was added to the trail and parking lot. A new drinking fountain and ADA picnic table were also installed.
Park Project Manager Kurt Beilharz noted the improvements. He said that Clarence Foster Park and the adjacent natural space are now beautiful. It is perfect for walking, jogging, bike riding, and bird watching. The renovations were funded through a 2008 bond referendum. This shows the city’s commitment to providing quality parks for its residents.
