Imagine Arab Street in the early years. Arab, Indian, Bugis, Javanese, and Chinese traders bustled here. It was a mixed enclave full of life. Fires ravaged Arab Street. A blaze in 1847 destroyed many homes. Author Munshi Abdullah witnessed this. He recorded it in Shaer Kampong Gelam Terbakar.
