On a crisp Chicago day in 1911, a small group of Lutherans gathered. They dreamt of a spiritual home. This dream took root at the corner of Eastwood and Spaulding. Christ Lutheran Church held its first service in a portable chapel on January 22, 1911. This humble beginning marked the birth of Christ Lutheran Church. This church quickly outgrew its temporary space. In 1912, the congregation purchased land at Wilson and Spaulding. Construction began in 1913. The new building was dedicated on April 12, 1914. Christ Lutheran Church continued to grow. A parish house was added in 1922. A new sanctuary was built and dedicated in 1924. The original structure was repurposed as a chapel and gymnasium. Today, Christ Lutheran Church stands as a testament to the enduring faith of its congregation. It embodies the spirit of community and inclusivity. The church embraces the diversity of its surrounding Albany Park neighborhood. It strives to share Christ’s love with the world.
