Ever since Bamberg came into existence over a millennium ago, it has been a haven for cozy gatherings. Zum Sternla has been a constant presence since at least 1380. It stands as the oldest inn in Bamberg.

The inn has retained much of its original charm. Uwe Steinmetz became the tenant in 1999. Ten years later, he purchased the property. He developed his own version of the perfect Franconian inn. It is quaint, cozy, down-to-earth and genuinely Franconian. This includes authentic cuisine with regional ingredients. Zum Sternla also has its own brewery since recently.

Zum Sternla blends tradition and modernity. Since 2019, modern brewing technology has been part of the inn. Locals and tourists gather here for a Schäuferla. It’s a Franconian snack. They also enjoy a Seidla beer. The beer is freshly tapped directly from the storage tank. You’ll also find vegetarian dishes on the menu.

Experience Franconian hospitality and Bamberg’s beer culture. Zum Sternla offers a rustic atmosphere. The inn celebrates its region with the motto: Franconian nothing else. Zum Sternla has several rooms. Each has its own story to tell. The shady inner courtyard with its bar is open during the summer months.

Zum Sternla is the youngest brewery on Bamberg’s scene. It is housed in the town’s oldest inn. Some of the foundation stones date back to 1380. The interior mixes old and modern styles. The interior courtyard offers a pleasant space on a warm day.

Zum Sternla is not particularly Franconian. Yet it offers good food and well-made beer in a nice setting. The Sternla Bock is well-made and relatively dry. Many Hellerbocks don’t manage this.

In December, Zum Sternla often has a Dunkles Festbier. They sometimes replace it with Grünhopfen Weihnachtsbier. They also offer seasonal beers each month. These include Kellerbier, Zwickel, Weißbier, Wiener Lager and Dunkles Weizen.

Zum Sternla also serves food. A popular choice is Bratkartoffeln mit Spiegelei fried potatoes with fried eggs.

A visitor in 2018 noticed Zum Sternla. He later discovered that Sternla is the oldest pub in the city. It is not tied to a particular brewery. There are a couple of beers on tap to choose from. The visitor chose Mahrs “U” to begin with. Then he switched to the lightly smoked Lagerbier from Spezial. Both were full of flavor and generally rather good.

So come inside. Experience the hospitality. Taste the beer. Zum Sternla has been waiting for you since 1380.
