How much light does a church need? This question preoccupied the parishioners of Zu den Heiligen Zwölf Aposteln back in 2018. They found their beloved church too dark. The solution seemed simple: renew the lighting. The Zu den Heiligen Zwölf Aposteln church wasn’t that old. It was built in 1964 based on the plans of Professor Clemens Holzmeister from Vienna. The church officially opened its doors for the first service on December 25th, 1966. Interestingly, this modern church was just one part of a larger complex. Professor Holzmeister also designed the rectory with its offices and the parish center. This ambitious project demonstrates the importance of the Catholic community in this part of Augsburg. While the lighting issue might seem trivial, it reflects how even modern buildings require upkeep and adaptation.
