Raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Apostle Dr. Paul M. Gitwaza arrived in Rwanda in 1995, a nation reeling from the devastating genocide against the Tutsi. Zion Temple Rubirizi, born from Gitwaza’s vision, emerged as a beacon of hope and healing during a time of immense trauma and despair. Gitwaza, ordained as a pastor in 1997, held his first crusade at the former National University of Rwanda in Butare. He partnered with other church leaders in the year 2000 for the “Heal our Land” conference, a significant step in Rwanda’s journey towards reconciliation. Zion Temple Rubirizi is part of the Authentic Word Ministries, established in 1996 with the vision to prepare the bride of Christ and bring positive change through development activities. Starting with just 120 members, Zion Temple Rubirizi has expanded to over 100,000 members globally across over 47 parishes. Its impact extends beyond spiritual guidance, encompassing education, healthcare, and even sports through initiatives like the Authentic International Academy, Bethsaida Health Center, and Authentic Football club. Zion Temple Rubirizi emphasizes the seven mountains of influence: Church, Family, Education, Leadership, Business, Media, and Entertainment, aiming to create a holistic impact on its members’ lives. The church’s growth and influence haven’t been without challenges. Internal conflicts have arisen, stemming from disagreements over the church’s vision and leadership. Despite these challenges, Zion Temple Rubirizi continues to thrive, offering a place of worship, community, and support to its members. Apostle Gitwaza’s influence extends beyond Rwanda. He founded the “Africa Arise and Shine” conference in 2000 to inspire Africans worldwide to embrace their faith and contribute to the continent’s transformation. Currently based in the United States, Gitwaza is establishing new Zion Temple parishes, expanding the church’s reach even further.
