In 1938, the Zion Baptist Evangelistic Temple opened its doors. It became a beacon of faith in Compton. The church, affectionately known as ZBET, has been more than just a place of worship. It has been a cornerstone of the community. ZBET has been a place where lives are transformed and hope is renewed. One former member recalls how their time at ZBET changed their life tremendously. They emphasized how much they learned and grew during their four years there. Another member fondly remembers Pastor Henson’s leadership. They described ZBET as a great family church under his guidance. Sadly, this same member later discovered the church was lost to foreclosure. This event marked a significant loss for the community. Pastor Kevin Stafford brought a renewed energy to the Zion Baptist Evangelistic Temple. One member shared how Pastor Stafford’s blessings made them feel capable of anything. Under Pastor Stafford’s leadership, the church underwent significant renovations. Both the interior and exterior were completely remodeled. This revitalization breathed new life into ZBET. It reaffirmed its commitment to serving the community. The Zion Baptist Evangelistic Temple has seen both triumph and hardship. Through it all, it has remained a testament to the enduring power of faith and community.
