Ever wondered how a bronze sculpture finds a new home among its living counterparts? The story of the Zicklein Sculpture in Frankfurt is quite special. This bronze sculpture is the work of August Martin Hoffmann. It was created in 1977.
Originally, the Zicklein stood in the Botanical Garden. But to protect it from theft, it was temporarily moved to the Konzerthalle. Markus Derling, the cultural advisor, had a brilliant idea. He suggested moving the beautiful sculpture to the Wildpark. The Gronenfelder Werkstätten embraced this idea.
Jochen Hanschel, the Wildpark chief, and his team chose a perfect spot. It was a place near the goat enclosure. With help from the Frankfurter Steinmetzfirma Knösel, the Zicklein Sculpture was installed. It was unveiled to the public, now in a safer location.
The Zicklein Sculpture is now in the Wildpark since 2017. The bronze sculpture stands 80 cm tall. It is 34 cm wide and 125 cm long.
Markus Derling believed the bronze Zicklein would be happy with its living relatives. He thought it would delight children and all visitors. He thanked Jochen Hanschel and the Gronenfelder Werkstätten for their help. There is even talk of adding more art to the Wildpark in the future.
August Martin Hoffmann was a significant artist. He was born in 1924 and died in 1985. He created several other notable sculptures. These include “Kletternde Kinder” in Dresden and “Mutter mit Kind” also in Frankfurt.
