Established in 2011 the zhb is a central scientific institution of the Technische Universität Dortmund. It’s a fascinating blend of research and service. The zhb houses four professorships. These professorships conduct extensive research on a wide range of topics. This includes professional identity academic entrepreneurship and university management. Research also covers leadership styles personal development organizational health and complex IT systems. The zhb’s research extends to university governance. The areas are Disability and Studies DoBuS Foreign Languages Higher Education Didactics Coordination of Digital Teaching Statistical Consulting and Analysis SBAZ and Further Education. DoBuS is notably the oldest and most renowned area in the German university landscape. It develops and implements comprehensive support concepts for students with disabilities. DoBuS has received numerous awards including the Zero Project Award. The Foreign Languages area offers a wide array of courses. Nearly 7000 students study one of 14 modern foreign languages German as a foreign language or Latin annually. The zhb also offers German Sign Language courses. A writing workshop helps students hone their academic writing and presentation skills.
The Higher Education Didactics area provides the Start into Teaching for new lecturers. They offer a certificate course in higher education didactics and many other events. The Coordination of Digital Teaching area acts as a liaison between various actors within the TU Dortmund. These include the areas of Higher Education Didactics DoBuS the IT & Media Center ITMC and the University Library UB. The Statistical Consulting and Analysis SBAZ area offers statistical advice for students and employees. External customers can also benefit from this service. The Further Education area is responsible for the scientific further education of the TU Dortmund. Current topics include school management and teacher training. This includes Digital Learning Leadership and Leadership and Teamwork in Schools. Additional qualifications in statistics are also offered such as Machine Learning in Data Science.
The zhb also houses the university choir. The choir is led by Heinke Kirzinger. Individual voice training is also available at the zhb. The zhb’s vision is to move the frontiers of higher education.
