The station sits inside a tunnel on the islet of Attiki Odos. It opened on May 10 2018. The Athens Suburban Railway serves it. The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport inaugurated the station. This occurred on Wednesday August 2 2017. Christos Spirtzis arrived on a special ministerial train. However, technical issues delayed its opening to passengers for nine months.
The station’s operation finally commenced in May 2018. ERGOSE constructed it using the cut and cover method. The station includes a ticket office. Seating and information boards are available on the platform. Lifts and escalators provide platform access. A local bus route stops outside the station. Since May 15 2022, weekday services call at Zefyri station. These services are part of the Athens Suburban Railway Line A4. It runs between Piraeus and Kiato. Trains operate up to once per hour. Future plans include Athens Metro Line 2 serving this station.
Zefyri faces challenges related to social inclusion. Many young people from excluded populations reside here. Issues such as poverty and unemployment need addressing.
