Completed in 1987, Zeckendorf Towers stands as a testament to 1980s ambition. Zeckendorf Towers, also known as One Irving Place and One Union Square East, dominates the east side of Union Square. This 29-story giant, with its four towers and pyramid-topped design, is hard to miss. It was a significant development, named after real estate magnate William Zeckendorf. The Zeckendorf Towers complex offers a glimpse into luxurious city living. It houses 645 units. The architects, Davis, Brody & Associates, created a mixed-use condominium enclave. They incorporated landscaped roof gardens, courtyards, and a full-service health club. A sky lobby complements the street-level concierge service. Zeckendorf Towers played a pivotal role in revitalizing Union Square. Since 1991, Maxwell Kates’ on-site staff has managed the building, ensuring its continued prestige. One of the most remarkable features of Zeckendorf Towers is its green roof. This 14,000-square-foot space sits atop the seventh floor. It’s the largest residential green roof in New York City. Created in 2010 as part of Mayor Bloomberg’s green initiative, it not only provides a beautiful space. It also helps prevent flooding in the Union Square subway station below. The health club at Zeckendorf Towers offers a wide array of amenities. Residents can enjoy a main workout area, specialized classes, and state-of-the-art cardio equipment.
