Welcome to the Grand Zabeel Mosque. It is a prominent mosque. It reflects Dubai’s dedication to preserving its Islamic traditions amidst rapid modernization.
Originally, the Grand Zabeel Mosque was a school. It was a simple kuttab. Young students learned the Quran by heart here. This humble beginning was in 1900.
In 1960, a new mosque replaced the original building. Later in 1998, it underwent another transformation. The new design was closer to the 1900s style. The Grand Zabeel Mosque became one of the largest mosques in Dubai. It became a dominant structure in the old city.
Look up at the minaret. It soars 70 meters. It resembles a lighthouse. It is the tallest minaret in Dubai. The mosque’s walls are a sandy grey. A Quranic inscription is inlaid above the entrance. It sits above five columns.
Notice the domes. There are 45 small and nine larger domes. They cover the roof with the tall minaret. The wooden windows feature handmade stained glass. They blend well with Bur Dubai’s old town. The minaret showcases Anatolian architectural style.
The Grand Zabeel Mosque can hold up to 1,200 worshippers. The mosque is open 24/7.
