Crisscrossing lanes of traffic define Yuegezhuang Bridge today. Before the western 4th Ring Road opened, Yuegezhuang Bridge was simpler. It was an elevated roundabout bridge. Think of the bridges on the eastern 2nd Ring Road.

Now, multi-level flyovers enhance the original Yuegezhuang Bridge structure. This was after the 4th Ring Road’s opening. Yuegezhuang is a key transportation point in Beijing. The 4th Ring Road meets the Jingshi Expressway here.

Consider the flow of Beijing. Yuegezhuang sits to the southwest of the city. Nearby, to the west, is Wanping. This area is industrialized and called Xidaokou.

Now, imagine the Central Axis of Beijing. Researchers highlight the roads and bridges, including Yuegezhuang Bridge, that connect the city’s heritage. Roads and bridges form a continuous entity. The southern section needed clarification. It has fewer grand buildings than the north. Archaeology helped people understand the southern section’s value.

Think of the Southern Section Road. It was used for national rituals during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Archaeologists found seven layers of road foundations. The deepest layer might be from the Yuan Dynasty or earlier. More evidence awaits discovery.

The Southern Section Road Archaeological Sites gained World Heritage status. They show the history of the central road’s use. They also show state ritual traditions on the Beijing Central Axis. Yuegezhuang Bridge plays its part in this continuous story.

Beijing residents have revitalized their memories. They devote themselves to protecting urban cultural heritage. The ancient city is returning. It is a new heritage landscape. So, as you traverse Yuegezhuang Bridge, remember its role. It is more than just concrete and steel. It connects Beijing’s past and present.
