Let’s rewind the clock to 2002. The Third Ward community in Houston was grappling with a lack of quality education for its children. This is the story of Yellowstone Academy, a beacon of hope that rose from those challenging times. Yellowstone Academy opened its doors with a vision of providing high-quality, faith-based education to students from underprivileged families. Their first home was a local church, and they welcomed just 64 students, eager for a brighter future. Every year, they added a grade level until they reached eighth grade. The school quickly outgrew its church home. Thankfully, an opportunity arose to purchase the historic Douglass Elementary School building. This landmark building became the new home of Yellowstone Academy. With its spacious halls and a strong sense of community, it provided a perfect environment for the school to grow. The founders emphasized a holistic approach to education, recognizing that learning goes beyond just textbook knowledge. They established a comprehensive student support program that included food assistance, bus transportation, health screenings, and even uniforms, ensuring that each child had the resources they needed to thrive. Today, Yellowstone Academy stands as a testament to the power of education and faith. It continues to offer a high-quality, faith-based curriculum and individualized attention, empowering its students to reach their full potential. Over the years, Yellowstone Academy has seen tremendous success. More than 92% of its alumni graduate from high school, with 80% pursuing a college education. This is a remarkable achievement, especially considering the challenges many of these students face. Yellowstone Academy stands as a beacon of hope for the Third Ward community, offering a path to a brighter future.
