They sought refuge from the northern winters and found it on this former 17th-century plantation along the Cooper River. Yeaman’s Hall Club Golf Course wasn’t designed for casual tourists. It was meant for those seeking privacy and exclusivity. The cost of membership reflected this, with initial fees set at $3,000. Subsequent members paid even more, with fees rising to $4,000 and $5,000. The club’s design reflects its founders’ desire for a blend of luxury and history. James Gamble Rogers designed the clubhouse in Southern Colonial style, incorporating a piece of the original Yeamans Hall mansion. This brick mansion, likely built by Lady Margaret Yeamans and her second husband, William Walley, served as a plantation house until its demise sometime before 1812. The very ground beneath your feet was once part of this sprawling estate. The golf course itself is a masterpiece by Seth Raynor. Raynor, who sadly passed away shortly after the course’s completion, created a “feature-rich” layout. The course spans roughly 6,400 yards, with nearly half the holes boasting elevation changes exceeding fifteen feet. Over 105 bunkers, some over 30 yards long, dotted the landscape. The greens, averaging over 8,000 square feet, were filled with classic features reminiscent of C.B. Macdonald’s beloved Scottish courses. Yeaman’s Hall Club Golf Course offers a unique experience.
