Here stands Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi. Have you ever wondered how a seed of compassion can blossom into a global movement? Established by Master Cheng Yen in 1966, Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi embodies kindness, compassion, joy, and selfless giving.
Guided by Buddhist teachings, the organization focuses on charity missions. Over 50 years, it has grown globally. Its diverse members come from various socio-economic backgrounds. They foster a symbiotic relationship between the financially fortunate and those in need. Tzu Chi’s charitable footprint spans health and education. It includes humanistic culture and disaster relief. Bone marrow initiatives and environmental activities are also key. It provides community assistance too. Transcending borders, Tzu Chi has become a beacon of global compassion.
In 1994, Tzu Chi Foundation extended its presence to Indonesia. It became Tzu Chi Indonesia Foundation. Years of dedicated charitable endeavors helped Tzu Chi establish itself. It became known as a benevolent and trustworthy institute. It expanded its good works into education. Sekolah Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi Cengkareng was established in 2003. In 2011, Tzu Chi School was founded. It continues to gain traction as an excellent educator.
Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association is a forum for the young generation. Master Cheng Yen advised Tzu Ching to use the power of youth. She urged them to influence other young people. Tzu Ching must develop a spirit of togetherness. This guides more young people to participate in the organization.
Since it was formed in Jakarta in 2003, Tzu Ching has spread to several regions in Indonesia. Every year, Tzu Ching gathers to invite new friends. They get to know Tzu Chi’s mission more deeply through Tzu Ching Camp. Tzu Ching participates in various activities. These range from social services to environmental protection. They carry the hope that love will continue. It will always be present in the future.
In 1993, the seeds of Tzu Chi’s Great Love from Taiwan were planted in Indonesia. Liang Cheung, a Taiwanese Tzu Chi volunteer, came to Indonesia. She encouraged wives of Taiwanese businessmen to participate as Tzu Chi donators. They realized the hardships of many people around them. They sought Master’s blessing to officially establish Tzu Chi in Indonesia. Master Cheng Yen said those who make a living in another country must contribute to the local people.
In September 1997, Master Cheng Yen presented a statue of Buddha Avalokitesvara. It was a symbol of recognition of Tzu Chi in Indonesia. This date was later designated as Indonesian Tzu Chi Day. Initiated from Jakarta, the seeds of Tzu Chi have continued to grow.
Since 1993, Tzu Chi volunteers have contributed to communities. In April 1994, Tzu Chi Indonesia began to visit nursing homes regularly. They delivered disaster relief aid and distributed daily basic needs. As time goes by, the aids delivered have been more varied. These range from scholarships to medical care.
The great flood of Jakarta in early 2002 served as the background for a series of large-scale long-term programs. In March 2002, Tzu Chi launched the Jakarta Flood Relief program. One program was cleaning Angke river and Ciliwung river. Following the program, Tzu Chi started the construction of the Tzu Chi Great Love Village. It was built to alleviate the suffering of the residents of Angke river bank.
Throughout 2003, Tzu Chi Indonesia distributed 50000 tons of rice to the needy. Along with the rice distribution, Tzu Chi spread the value of universal love.
