By 1920 it fell under Yeongdeungpo-myeon Siheung-gun’s jurisdiction. In 1931 it was officially renamed Yangpyeong-ri Yeongdeungpo-eup Siheung-gun. The year 1936 saw its integration into Gyeongseong-bu. It was then designated Yanghwajang.

After liberation in 1946 it was reorganized. It became Yangpyeong-dong Yeongdeungpo District. Yanghwa-dong also received a new name. It became Yanghwa-dong Yeongdeungpo District when the term ‘jeong’ was replaced with ‘dong’. Yangpyeong 1-dong today sits nestled within this larger area. It’s a dynamic place a blend of old and new.
