Xinjiekou Subdistrict. A name that whispers of history. It means “New Intersection”. This unassuming name hides a rich past. A past stretching back centuries. Before Xinjiekou was Xinjiekou it was a river port. Imagine the boats gliding along. Their rhythmic splashes echoed against the banks. This was long ago in 1438. Land reclamation transformed the river port into the Xinjiekou we know today. The area was settled. Xinjiekou was officially recorded in 1593.

Over the centuries Xinjiekou Subdistrict has witnessed immense change. It shifted from being part of the Zhenghong and Zhenghuang Banners during the Qing dynasty. It later became the Right 4th Inner District in 1916. The name evolved. It became the 4th Inner District then the 4th District. Eventually it settled on 4th Western District. Finally in 1958 it was reformed as Xinjiekou Subdistrict. It was transferred under the governance of Xicheng District. In 2004 land west of Xinjiekoubei Avenue was added. The former Fusuijing Subdistrict became a part of Xinjiekou.

Today Xinjiekou Subdistrict thrives. It has a population of 84866 people. They live in communities like Xili Second District and Yutaoyuan. They call it home. Each community has its own unique character and history. They are all bound together under the umbrella of Xinjiekou. Xinjiekou Subdistrict stands as a testament to Beijing’s enduring spirit. It symbolizes growth and transformation. It is a vibrant blend of the old and the new.
