Sichuan Mechanical College of Agriculture: That’s where the story of Xihua University truly begins. We stand here today in front of Xihua University. It is a place of learning and growth in Chengdu.
Xihua University’s history is rich. It began with the merger of two significant institutions. The Sichuan Mechanical College of Agriculture was founded in 1960. The Teacher’s College was founded in 1971. In 2003, these two merged creating Xihua University. Xihua University expanded further in 2008. It incorporated the Sichuan Economic Management Institute.
The Sichuan Mechanical College of Agriculture focused on agricultural development. It helped nurture skilled professionals. The Teacher’s College shaped future generations of educators. Together, they formed a university. This university embraces technical expertise and dedication to education. The addition of the Sichuan Economic Management Institute broadened the university’s offerings. Xihua University became a comprehensive institution.
Xihua University covers 469.5 acres in Chengdu’s Hi-tech zone. The campus is beautiful. A tributary of the Ming Jiang River winds through it. The ancient Du Jiangyan Irrigation Project lies to the west. This adds to the scenery.
The university motto is “Diligence, Virtue and Excellence.” It reflects Xihua University’s commitment to its students. Xihua University offers a wide range of programs. These include economics, management, science and engineering. Also, Xihua University provides liberal arts, fine arts, and sports programs.
Xihua University consists of 16 schools and one department. There are 52 undergraduate programs. Currently, Xihua University has about 22000 full-time students. This includes 16000 undergraduates and 400 graduates.
Xihua University has a strong faculty. There are 1400 teachers and staff members. Of these, 380 teachers hold senior posts. Xihua University has also invited academicians. Three are directors of key provincial laboratories. There are 14 other academicians. 43 distinguished professors are part-time professors at Xihua University.
Campus life here is vibrant. Students engage in extracurricular activities and clubs. There are ample opportunities for internships. Industry collaborations complement academic studies.
