Journey to Xiaoguwei, a place brimming with history and transformation. Xiaoguwei, once known as French Island, rests in the Pearl River Delta. This island, part of Guangzhou’s Panyu District, isn’t just a geographical landmark. It’s a testament to evolving times. Xiaoguwei played a unique role during the Canton trade era. French crews used the island for ship repairs and burials. Its location, southeast of the Whampoa anchorage, was strategically important. However, British naval blockades often disrupted French access to Guangzhou. Today, Xiaoguwei is a hub for education. The Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center now occupies the entire island. Getting around Xiaoguwei is easy, thanks to numerous bus routes. These routes connect the universities with downtown Guangzhou. Bus 381 is a key route, linking each university to two crucial metro stations. Express buses, using toll roads, offer quicker commutes. Some universities even have their own shuttle services. For those preferring the metro, Xiaoguwei boasts two stations. Higher Education Mega Center North station is on Line 4. Higher Education Mega Center South station serves both Line 4 and Line 7.
