Do you see that mountain resembling a government official from ancient China? That is Xianggong Hill. It stands majestically on the west bank of the Li River. In ancient times, Xianggong meant a government official. These officials always wore hats and official outfits. The mountain’s shape resembles one of these officials giving it its name.
Xianggong Hill was once an obscure karst hill. It was just another face in the crowd of Yangshuo’s many mountains. Then, a local photographer captured its beauty. The photographer won a bronze prize in an international contest. Overnight, Xianggong Mountain became famous. Now, photographers and travelers flock here. They seek the panoramic views.
Xianggong Hill lies between Mural Hill and Yellow Cloth Shoal. It is about 28 km from Yangshuo and 57 km from Guilin. Locals also call it Hebao Mountain. This name comes from Hebao Village at its foot.
At the entrance, a row of grey-tiled houses greets you. Above the middle gate, a wood plaque reads “Jin Shou Yan Di”. This means “providing a panoramic view.” Passing through the entrance, stone steps begin. The climb takes about 15 minutes. Don’t be discouraged if the early scenery seems ordinary. The gorgeous view from the top is worth it.
Reaching the three-storey sightseeing stage reveals a panorama of Yangshuo. The Li River meanders embraced by rolling hills. It makes a 180-degree bend here. Sunrises paint the sky with rosy hues. A sea of clouds often graces the landscape. Looking down, boats and bamboo rafts sail the river. Fishermen work along the banks. White farmhouses dot the fields. Hills rise in the distance partially hidden. Sunny days create a wonderland of sunlight and shadows.
If you visit Yangshuo, don’t miss Xianggong Hill. It offers the best bird’s-eye views of the Li River scenery. Capture the moment. Make Yangshuo a lifelong memory.
Autumn offers the best weather. The best time for photos is early morning on sunny days. Check the weather forecast before your visit. Consider staying at Xianggong Mountain Villa at the mountain’s base. The host can guide you to other scenic spots. They will show you wonderful angles for photography.
