However on December 29 2013 a significant governmental decision altered its status. Government Resolution No 136NQ-CP officially transferred Xa Thuong Tan to the newly established Bac Tan Uyen District. This decision reorganized the administrative boundaries. It placed Xa Thuong Tan under a new form of governance.
Xa Thuong Tan is divided into six subdivisions. These are numbered sequentially from 1 to 6. These subdivisions help organize the administration. They are also used for local governance purposes.
