“Did they really challenge an entire empire?” a hushed voice asks. Here, right before us, lies Xã Phước Trung. It’s a place that seems unassuming at first glance. But don’t let appearances fool you. This area holds a legacy intertwined with the very heart and soul of Vietnam. Xã Phước Trung is a commune in Gò Công Đông District, Tiền Giang Province. It might surprise you to know that Xã Phước Trung was once part of Gò Công province until 1979. Then, a decision by the government on April 13th redrew the map. Gò Công province was divided into Gò Công Đông and Gò Công Tây, placing Xã Phước Trung within Gò Công Đông as we know it today. The spirit of those ancient warrior queens, the Trưng sisters, still whispers through the rice paddies and along the canals. Their fight for freedom, for independence, echoes in the hearts of the people here. Though Xã Phước Trung may seem a world away from the grand battles of the past, their courage resonates in the everyday resilience of its people. Take a moment, breathe in the air, and feel the echoes of history whispering their tale. You might just hear the faint beat of war drums on the wind.
