“Did you know that even place names can have their own unique stories?” our guide asked, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. “Take Xã Kiệm Phước for instance.” Right before us, the bustling streets of Xã Kiệm Phước seemed to hum with a hidden past. “You’ll often see it misspelled, even on official documents. People drop the accent mark, turning ‘Kiệm’ into ‘Kiện’, changing the entire meaning.” Xã Kiệm Phước, we learned, was born from the merger of two villages: Phước Long Đông and Long Kiệm. The name, a blend of the old and new, reflects the area’s history. The “Kiệm” specifically comes from Long Kiệm, a name rooted deep in the past. It even graced a local canal and a bridge: Rạch Long Kiệm and Cầu Long Kiệm. “The accent matters,” our guide emphasized. “Kiệm, with the accent, signifies a wish for good fortune. Without it, it means something else entirely.” He paused for effect. “So, remember, even the smallest detail can hold a world of meaning. Keep an eye out for those hidden stories as we explore Xã Kiệm Phước!”
