Xã Đa Tốn

Can you hear the whispers of ancient kings? Xã Đa Tốn in Gia Lâm district, Hanoi, holds secrets of a royal past. Xã Đa Tốn sits southeast of Gia Lâm, bordering Trâu Quỳ township and the Hanoi University of Agriculture to the north. To the east lies Kiêu Kỵ commune. Đông Dư and Bát Tràng communes mark its western border, while the southern edge touches Hưng Yên province. The Cầu Bảy River flows from Long Biên, through Trâu Quỳ and Xã Đa Tốn, eventually joining the Bắc Hưng Hải River in Kiêu Kỵ. Sadly, the river now suffers from significant pollution. Xã Đa Tốn covers 7.39 square kilometers and housed 22,658 people in 2022. This area boasts a rich history, once part of Đa Tốn tổng in Gia Lâm district within the ancient Phủ Thuận An. The villages of Đào Xuyên, Khoan Tế, Thuận Tốn, Lệ Xá, and Ngọc Động all fell within this area. After the August Revolution of 1945, the villages reorganized. Đào Xuyên, Khoan Tế, and Thuận Tốn merged to form Minh Tốn commune. Lệ Xá and Ngọc Động remained as Xã Đa Tốn. In 1947, Minh Tốn and Xã Đa Tốn briefly united as Đại Minh before absorbing parts of Kiêu Kỵ to become Đại Hưng. By 1956, Đại Hưng split again. Đại Hưng consisted of Đào Xuyên, Lệ Xá, Ngọc Động, Thuận Tốn, and Khoan Tế. Tân Hưng encompassed Kiêu Kỵ, Gia Cốc, Bảo Đáp, Hoàng Xá, and Chu Xá. In 1961, both Đại Hưng and Tân Hưng came under the direct administration of Hanoi. Xã Đa Tốn reclaimed its name in 1966. Today, Xã Đa Tốn comprises five villages: Đào Xuyên, Khoan Tế, Lệ Xá, Ngọc Động, and Thuận Tốn. Several key roads crisscross Xã Đa Tốn. Provincial Road 195 connects Long Biên to Hưng Yên province, passing directly through Xã Đa Tốn. This stretch is locally known as the Long Biên – Xuân Quan road or the Bát Tràng road. Provincial Road 379 links the Hanoi – Lạng Sơn expressway to National Road 39 in Hưng Yên province. The Hanoi – Hải Phòng expressway also skirts Xã Đa Tốn. Local roads connect surrounding villages and provide access to National Road 5. Several bus routes serve the area, ensuring good connectivity within Hanoi.
