Then, in 1979, a decision was made to divide the district, creating Gò Công Đông and Gò Công Tây. Xã Bình Đông fell under the jurisdiction of Gò Công Đông. Years passed, and the landscape of administration shifted once again. In 2008, Xã Bình Đông transitioned from Gò Công Đông to become part of Gò Công township.
