Over 432 souls rest here. They were moved. Their original resting place? An old burying ground. It was across the street from Melrose City Hall. Now Coolidge Apartments stand there. This is Wyoming Cemetery.

Wyoming Cemetery. It’s more than just a cemetery. It’s a living history book. It holds the stories of Melrose’s earliest residents. Their final resting place is here. Some 432 bodies were relocated in 1891. These are among the oldest. Many of their identities remain a mystery. Lost to time. Swallowed by history.

Wyoming Cemetery has grown. By 1949 almost 15000 people were buried here. That’s after about a century of operation. This number soared. By 2011 over 25000 souls found peace here. The cemetery was nearly full. This community cemetery shows growth and change. It reflects the growth of Melrose itself.

The city’s history is etched into the very ground. You see the graves. They are testaments to lives lived. They are silent witnesses to generations passed. For decades the city allowed pre-sales of plots. This practice ended in the early 2000s. It led to a grave shortage. The city learned a lesson.

Today Wyoming Cemetery continues to serve Melrose. It is a place of quiet reflection. It’s a place of remembrance. It is a monument to a community’s history. It’s a place to connect with the past. Walk amongst the stones. Feel the weight of history. Wyoming Cemetery holds stories waiting to be discovered.
