The Wyoming Avenue Church of Christ began with a vision. Members from the Ford Avenue Church of Christ in Highland Park wanted to spread God’s word. It was 1962. Their goal was to establish congregations in areas lacking a Church of Christ presence. Northwest Detroit near 8 Mile Road and Wyoming seemed ideal.
Securing finances was crucial. Brothers from Ford Avenue with construction skills stepped up. They built the original building at Wyoming and Chippewa. Finally, in July 1966, the Wyoming Avenue Church of Christ opened its doors. The doors have remained open ever since.
Initially, the Wyoming Avenue Church of Christ had only 40 members. Today, the congregation has grown to over 350. The church still focuses on teaching God’s word. Their programs and services reach beyond the building’s walls.
