Wuhou Temple

The Temple of Marquis Wu, a name that echoes with the spirit of strategy and loyalty, stands before us. This majestic temple complex, nestled in the heart of Chengdu, is a timeless testament to the Three Kingdoms Period, a time of war, intrigue, and legendary figures. The Wuhou Temple is dedicated to the memory of Zhuge Liang, the brilliant strategist and Prime Minister of the Shu Kingdom, and his revered lord, Liu Bei. The temple was built during the Qing Dynasty, in the year 1672, on the site of earlier shrines dedicated to these powerful figures. As you step into the temple, you are greeted by the intricate carvings and colorful decorations that give a glimpse into China’s rich architectural heritage. The main body of the temple is divided into five distinct sections, each telling a story of the lives and legacies of Zhuge Liang and Liu Bei. The Hall of Liu Bei stands as a tribute to the first emperor of the Shu Kingdom, adorned with statues of the emperor and his loyal ministers. It highlights Liu Bei’s wisdom and noble character and the importance of leadership. The Hall of Zhuge Liang, the heart of the temple, is a place of reverence. Here, the statue of Zhuge Liang, known for his strategic genius and unwavering loyalty, stands tall, holding his iconic feather fan. Among the many inscriptions and tablets within the Hall, the Tablet of Triple Success is particularly remarkable. It was originally penned by Pei Du, a renowned official and master calligrapher, then painstakingly carved into the tablet by Lu Jian, a talented engraver. They each left an indelible mark on the tablet, making it a true masterpiece of calligraphy and craftsmanship. As you wander through the temple, you can sense the whispers of history, the legacy of these great leaders.
