“And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” This guiding scripture embodies the spirit of Word of Truth Church of God in Christ. It stands as a testament to faith and community.
Word of Truth Church of God in Christ’s story begins with a vision. Bishop Theresea, licensed to preach in 1984, felt a divine calling. She established Word Of Truth Ministry. It was to be the foundation for her work and a place for God to build something special.
In 1993, Bishop Theresea married Bishop James Randolph. Their union created a dynamic team. They dedicated themselves to sharing God’s Word. They spread His glory throughout the land. They conducted Bible studies, workshops, and conferences. All under the banner of Word Of Truth Ministry.
Bishop James received his preaching license in 1997. He later became the Assistant Pastor of Zion Benevolent Baptist Church. This was in Hopkins, South Carolina. For three and a half years, Word Of Truth Ministry took a backseat. Except for a weekly radio broadcast. Bishop Theresea supported Bishop James in his pastoral duties.
November 15, 2002 marked a new chapter. Word Of Truth Ministry resumed its activities. A meeting at the Bishops’ home sparked the revival. Initial members included Bishops James and Theresea Randolph. Also, Mother Sarah Randolph, Minister Lucious and Debbie Frierson, Betty Mays, Virginia Marsh, and David Randolph were among the founders. The ministry was renamed Word Of Truth Ministry And Worship Center.
The first Bible Study followed soon after. It was held on November 19, 2002. The location was Hopkins’ Senior Citizen Recreation Center. The first worship service occurred on November 24, 2002. Again, it took place at the Hopkins’ Senior Citizen Recreation Center.
Growth led to a new location. A week later, the ministry moved. The new address was 7354 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, South Carolina. The first service in this sanctuary was December 1, 2002. It was a day filled with worship. Communion was observed. Sunday School was held. A dedication followed that afternoon. Pastors from nearby churches participated in the dedication ceremony.
Over three years, the ministry grew. Bishops, leaders, members, and friends showed dedication. In 2005, two significant events shaped the ministry’s path. First, God expanded their mission. They became expositors, defenders, and teachers of truth. They aimed to create a house for true worshippers. A place where they could freely express their worship.
John 4:23 became a guiding scripture. “But the hour cometh and now is. When the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth.”
The second event was a move to a new House of Worship. The address was 1723 Leesburg Road in Columbia, South Carolina. Renovations were completed through dedication and sacrifice. The first worship service was held on July 3, 2005. Members and friends gathered for prayers and communion. They moved inside for praise, worship, and the preached Word.
Word Of Truth Ministry And Worship Center began with a faithful few. They desired freedom in worship and service. Each year brings growth. Each year brings renewed anticipation. The community is eager to see what God will do next within the Ministry.
Word of Truth Church of God in Christ continues to spread its message. It builds on its foundation of faith and community. It welcomes all to experience the truth. A truth that sets you free.
