Imagine a humble beginning. It started with just a handful of people. This is the story of Word of Life Christian Center.
Word of Life Christian Center is a beacon of faith in Las Vegas. It is a multicultural church for all people. The church is committed to worshipping God. They do so in spirit and in truth. The aim is reaching Las Vegas and the world. This is achieved with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
The story of Word of Life Christian Center began in December 1982. Services were first held in a home. Only five people attended. These people supported the founding pastors David and Vicki Shearin. One of these initial members was Andy Visser. He later became the Youth Pastor and Associate Pastor.
As the church grew it moved locations. They moved from a home to a hotel meeting room. Then they moved to a storefront shopping center. Over the next eight years, more space was leased. This accommodated the growing congregation. During this time, Pastor David shared the vision. It was called “Arise and Build”. The congregation began giving to a building fund.
In 1990, property was purchased. In 1994, Word of Life Christian Center began holding services in a newly built sanctuary. This is their present location. The church attendance has grown to over 2,000 people.
David and Vicki Shearin are the Senior Pastors of Word of Life Christian Center. They married in August 1982. Then they moved to Las Vegas in December. They started the church with just five people in a home.
Word of Life Christian Academy exists here. There is also Word of Life Bible Institute. Furthermore, there is The Word for Living television outreach. Several other ministries and outreaches help accomplish the vision.
Word of Life Christian Center exists to connect people with God. They connect people with His church. They connect people with purpose. Everyone is welcome here. This is regardless of their faith journey.
The church offers services on Sunday at 8:00 am, 10:30 am and 6:30 pm. There is also a service on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
Word of Life Christian Center stands as a testament. It shows faith and community can flourish. It grew from humble beginnings to a vibrant center. It continues to impact lives in Las Vegas and beyond.
