But the story of the Word of God Fellowship extends beyond Texas. It began with Bishop Frank and Pastor JoeNell Summerfield. They founded Word of God Fellowship in 1988. It was first named Ye Are the Temple. God told Bishop Summerfield the new name. The ministry started small. It began with six chairs in a kitchen. The first members were their children and Pastor JoeNell’s mother.

Bishop Frank and Pastor JoeNell Summerfield led Word of God Fellowship for 40 years. The ministry first operated out of a storefront. It was next to a radio station in Raleigh, NC. As the ministry grew, God led Bishop Summerfield to a new location. This was downtown Raleigh on Davie Street.

Bishop Summerfield also worked outside the church. He was an administrator for the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation for 14 years. He also taught at Campbell University. He taught at Shaw University too. He taught financial empowerment courses at Halifax Community College.

In 1991, Word of God Fellowship moved to 3000 Rock Quarry Rd. They acquired 12 acres of land. In 1993, Word of God Christian Academy & Daycare was established. It served infants through 12th grade. Hundreds of students graduated. The academy became a pillar in the community for Christian education.

God continued to work through Bishop Frank and Pastor JoeNell Summerfield. They acquired an additional 100+ acres. They built single-family homes on 51 acres. Bishop Summerfield established Word of God Fellowship Dudley. He traveled back and forth for many years. The ministry helped save lives through its TV ministry. Bishop Summerfield ministered throughout the country.

Bishop Frank Summerfield passed away in July 2017. Pastor JoeNell passed away two months later. Their son Mitchell became senior pastor in September 2017.

The Summerfield’s legacy includes the members of Word of God Fellowship. It includes alumni and students of Word of God Christian Academy. Their legacy also includes their books. These books cover topics like money management and personal success. They also wrote about marriage and relationships. Thousands of lives have been touched through their ministry.

Today, The Word of God Christian Fellowship continues to thrive. It stands as a testament to the Summerfield’s vision. It welcomes all who seek spiritual growth. It provides a foundation for families. It is a place where faith and community intertwine.
