Have you ever felt the pull of faith, the need for a spiritual home, especially when miles and circumstances made the closest church a burden? You are standing before one of the most remarkable churches in San Antonio, Woodlawn Christian Church. It was founded in 1926, born from the simple, yet powerful, desire for a place of worship closer to home for residents of the Woodlawn area. Back then, the nearest church was far away, and the journey was a real challenge. Seeing a need, a small group of dedicated individuals met in a home, laying the very foundation of this church. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. John Bourland, Mrs. Jacob Spangler, Mrs. Lou Gaskins, Mrs. Nellie Flanagan, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Eubank, and M.P. Pierson, a preacher. They established the church covenant and elected trustees. From that humble home meeting, Woodlawn Christian Church has grown and thrived for over 90 years. It has remained dedicated to its mission, to reach people for Jesus. The journey, though, hasn’t been without trials. Over the years, it has faced challenges, but the unwavering faith and deep community forged within these walls have ensured its continued presence. The church remains a beacon of hope, a home for many who strive to walk the path of faith.
