In 1912, landscape architect Arthur Comey, hired by city leaders, proposed an interlinked system of parks and green spaces connected by bayou corridors. Woodland Park, as one of only two parks abutting a bayou at that time, stood as a cornerstone of Comey’s vision.
While Comey’s vision was only partially realized, it helped shape the city’s development, and Woodland Park is a continuing legacy of that plan. The park has endured years of urban sprawl, transitioning from a suburban escape to a beloved urban oasis.
