Did someone say “Year of Champions”? Woodbury Junior Senior High School, right here in Woodbury, has a history that’s hard to beat. Founded in 1902, Woodbury Junior Senior High School is one of the oldest schools in South Jersey. It even predates its own athletic conference! But its age isn’t the only thing that makes it special. Back in the 1952-53 school year, Woodbury High School achieved something truly remarkable. Every single one of their athletic teams, boys and girls, either tied for or won outright titles in their respective conferences. That’s right, every single one! Football, basketball, baseball, track, field hockey, tennis, you name it, they dominated. They didn’t just squeak by either. These Thundering Herd teams racked up an incredible combined record of 75 wins, 13 losses, and 1 tie. Talk about a dynasty! This incredible feat, unmatched in the entire country, earned them the title “Year of Champions.” It’s a testament to the dedication and sportsmanship that Woodbury Junior Senior High School embodies. So, the next time you hear “Thundering Herd,” remember the year they took it all!
