A significant change occurred during Rev Oscar Kraft’s leadership. Three-fourths of the congregation departed. They formed St. Stephen’s Evangelical Church. It was located at Ferry Street and Wilson Avenue.

Following this division, Rev Julius H. Wolff began his pastorate. He started with only 60 members. Rev. Wolff was a graduate of the German Theological Seminary. It is now Bloomfield College. He was a member of the first graduating class. That was in 1874.

In 1882, the church relocated. Its new home was at the corner of Ann Street and Wilson Avenue. The church added a Sunday School building in 1891. It was later enlarged in 1895.
