Want to know how a small group of dedicated people started a church from scratch? This is the story of Windsor Baptist Church. It began with a vision and a lot of faith.
In September 1966 eleven men from local Baptist and Bible churches gathered at Robert Klock’s home. These men wanted to start a new church in the Windsor area. Nine of them committed to the cause. They were Robert Klock, Milt Button, Clifton Colwell, Paul Colwell, Arlyn Colwell, Bill Lake, Dick Peterson, Floyd Colwell and Edward Benson.
The founders decided to hold Thursday night prayer meetings. This way they would not interfere with other churches’ schedules. Over the next few months the church began to take shape. A constitution and statement of faith were created. Permission was obtained to use the Windsor Town Hall. They used it for prayer meetings and later for regular services.
The church incorporated and purchased the Old Dairymen’s League Plant. The plan was to remodel it into a church building. On New Year’s Eve December 31 1967 the church moved into its new building. It was only partly remodeled but the congregation was eager. From that day forward all services were held in the remodeled building.
The Windsor Baptist Church’s goal was clear. They wanted to reach Windsor and beyond with the Gospel of Christ. From the start the church supported missionaries around the world. They also used various programs to reach the community. Vacation Bible School, Release Time Classes, a young peoples choir and AWANA Clubs were all used. These programs helped young people grow spiritually. They also reached out to the community.
In 1972 the church built a new parsonage for its pastor. Seeing a need for more space they added a gym in 1980. The gym became a valuable asset. Local organizations used the facility bringing the community into the church. In January 2020 the church changed its name. Windsor Bible Baptist Church became Windsor Bible Church.
Windsor Baptist Church has a rich history. It is a testament to the power of faith and community. From humble beginnings it has grown into a pillar of the Windsor area. Its commitment to spreading the Gospel remains as strong as ever.
