How many legendary stories do these walls hold? Welcome to Windmill Lane Recording Studios. This is no ordinary building. It is a place where music history was written and continues to unfold.

Windmill Lane Recording Studios started in 1978. Brian Masterson and James Morris founded it. They wanted a world-class recording studio in Dublin. The original location was on Windmill Lane. It quickly became known for the graffiti. U2 fans from around the world covered the buildings in art.

The studio’s history is long and full of stories. The team believes in the power of storytelling. They help artists bring their visions to life. They do this through post-production and audio. They also provide creative partnerships.

Early on, Windmill Lane became a hub for music. A young U2 based themselves here in the 1980s. Soon, other huge stars followed. David Bowie and AC/DC recorded here. Def Leppard and Bruce Springsteen also made music here. Kate Bush and Elvis Costello added their names to the list. The list goes on and on.

The original Windmill Lane building became a U2 shrine. Fans covered it in graffiti. It was a must-see for tourists. In 1990, the main studio moved to Ringsend Road. The new location is a striking Art Deco building. Before being a studio, the building was an electrical power station for the tramline depot. It even was a Bovril factory and a snooker hall.

Today, Windmill Lane Recording Studios is still a creative powerhouse. It boasts three state-of-the-art recording studios. The largest studio can fit an 80-piece orchestra. It is the only studio in Ireland that can do this.

Many film scores have been recorded here. They include scores from Mission Impossible and The Mask. Also scores from My Left Foot and In America. Studio Two is known for its number-one albums. Artists like The Spice Girls and Kylie Minogue recorded here.

In 2009, new owners took over. They updated the studios and brought new energy. Music of all genres is recorded here. Pop, electronic, jazz, and classical music thrive here. Grammy Award-winning albums line the walls.

In 2020, Windmill Lane launched a visitor experience. Guests can explore the studio’s history. They can also learn how music tracks are made. They can even mix their own session. Windmill Lane Recording Studios continues to evolve. It embraces new technologies and creative partnerships. It remains dedicated to quality output. It stands as a beacon for storytellers.
